San Juan College will hold graduation ceremonies for its students, as well as students who have earned degrees from New Mexico Highlands University – Farmington Center and the University of New Mexico-San Juan Center, beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 10, in the Learning Commons Plaza. New Mexico Lt. Governor John Sanchez will give the guest keynote address. San Juan College president Dr. Toni Hopper Pendergrass will preside over the ceremonies.
Graduation will recognize over 900 graduates of San Juan College earning associate degrees and certificates, as well as the graduates earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from New Mexico Highlands University – San Juan Center, and the University of New Mexico – Farmington Center.
College Board chairman Dr. Joe Pope will award diplomas and certificates to the students. Faculty members serving as Grand Marshalls are Dr. Keith Cochrane, Mary Doshi, Ann Hardy, Mike Hattabaugh, Bonnie Rung, Danielle Sullivan, and Terry Swan.
Gayle Dean, executive director of the San Juan College Foundation, will award the Foundation’s Allison Award for Excellence to an outstanding faculty member. Vice President for Learning Dr. Barbara Ake will recognize this year’s honors students.
Music will be by the San Juan College Choir under the direction of Linda Edwards, and the San Juan College Big Band under the direction of Dr. Keith Cochrane.
The graduate nominated by faculty and selected by the Graduation Committee to represent their class and speak at this year’s ceremonies is Ben Bisland. Bisland will receive his associate’s degree in Nursing.
Following graduation ceremonies, a reception will be held on the west lawn of the Henderson Fine Arts Center.
