HIGH ENDEAVORS CHALLENGE COURSE (HECC)

 

About the HECC

The High Endeavors Challenge Course is a comprehensive challenge course facility that is used to benefit a variety of user groups. The course has been located on the San Juan College campus since 1993 and continues to improve and to serve the community. The course includes space for numerous lawn elements, 13 low elements, an Alpine Tower, a Pamper Pole/Net Leap, and a Breathtaker Swing. A large shade structure that overlooks the course provides an area for participants to gather, eat, and/or relax after a successful day on the course. Through custom designed programs the challenge course can be an effective educational tool for personal growth and development, team building, and the development of personal and professional leadership skills.

MISSION

The mission of the High Endeavors Challenge Course is to provide valuable learning experiences to individuals, families, community groups, businesses, and other organizations through experiential, adventure-based learning opportunities.

PROGRAMS

The programs we design become effective vehicles for change and improvement for the clients we serve. From corporate executives to community leaders and from college students to professional trainers, we devise programs to enhance the effectiveness of groups and the personal growth of individuals.

Groups that come to the HECC include church groups, boy scouts, girl scouts, middle school classes, high school classes, college classes, businesses, military groups, non-profit organizations, family reunions, and the list goes on.  Courses can be designed for anything from a half day of fun to a multiple day team-building getaway.

Programs can be specifically tailored according to time and content to work on many skills including but not limited to the following:

Experiential Education at the HECC

Experiential education is a philosophy and methodology in which educators purposefully engage with learners in direct experience and focused reflection in order to increase knowledge, develop skills, and clarify values.

Traditionally used in the military for physical strength and conditioning, the original challenge course was an obstacle course containing numerous high and low structured static and dynamic elements. They included such things as 40-foot high climbing walls and low-lying balancing platforms.

Today, however, the physical aspects of a challenge course play a much smaller role; the problem-solving aspects that challenge a group to mutual decision-making, trust, cooperation, and self-confidence building, plays the larger role.

Known also as a ropes course, the traditional obstacle course has been adapted by modern challenge course programs to bring the sophisticated mental, emotional and physical aspects of Outward Bound type wilderness courses into more accessible urban settings.

Being Prepared for a Day at the HECC

Participants are encouraged to bring the following:

  • Extra layers during colder months
  • Rain jacket and pants
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Snacks or lunch (depending on course)
  • Water bottle(s)

 

Location

The High Endeavors Challenge Course is located just north of San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico. The course has been carefully integrated into the high desert landscape to minimize the human impact on the land and to enhance the natural beauty of the area.

Rates, Availability, and Forms

The High Endeavors Challenge Course is available year round, seven days a week, for half, full and multiple day workshops and courses.  Rates are based on program design. Please call for a free consultation, price estimate, and course availability.
