Computer skills will I need? |
You will need the following to complete this course successfully:
3. Familiarity with Angel course software. It is assumed that you know how to use Angel to take this course.
If you don't learn well on your own or are unsure of yourself on the computer, you should reconsider whether you are suited for this course right now. To help you determine whether this course is the right choice for you, look over the “Online Readiness Checklist” under “Getting Started” on the SJC Virtual Campus webpage. See the list of links at the end of the page to go to "Getting Started."

Will I have to meet face-to-face with the instructor or other students? |
No, there are no face-to-face meetings for this class. The course will open the first day of the semester. When you log onto Angel and open this course, you will see instructions for completing an on-line course orientation which will explain how to successfully complete the course. |
This course is manageable if you work well on your own and are good with deadlines. You will have to consider the assignments well before the due date since many ask you to complete activities with other people in your life (which you should expect from an interpersonal communication course!). If you wait until the last minute to try to complete assignments, you are not likely to do well. |
On-line courses take at least as much time as face-to-face classes on campus! |
To an extent. All of your assignments will be available when the course opens the first day of class. This means that you are welcome to work ahead and submit your assignments early. But there is a due date for each assignment that you may not go beyond. No late assignments are accepted.

This course fills up very quickly, usually within a couple of days after registration begin. My advice is to register early! If you don’t get in, you will be placed on a waiting list. If you are on the waiting list, it will be a waste of your time to contact me and ask me to sign you in anyway. The reason we have the waiting list is so if openings become available, students are able to add the class on a first come, first serve basis. So to take the course:
1. Sign up during registration.
3. Sign into the course through Angel on the first day of class.

Keeping in mind the above information, it is my sincere desire that you enjoy this class. Some students report that the personal journey the course takes them on is transformative. If taken seriously, the skills you develop in the course can change your life in a positive and profound way. At the very least, you will learn some techniques to improve the quality of your relationships and possibly create a little peace in a world full of conflict. J
